Christ's love makes the church whole. His words evoke her beauty. Everything he does and says is designed to bring the best out of her, dressing her in dazzling white silk, radiant with holiness. And that is how husbands ought to love their wives.
Ephesians 5:26-28 [Message]
What is God's purpose for marriage? Is it
for procreation? Is it for sex? Is it for companionship?
Is it to pass down the faith? Or, is it to make you happy?
Here's a secret that is a key to understanding
marriage. The purpose of marriage is not to make you happy.
It is to make you holy. Marriage is a means by which God
shapes our character, making us more like Him.
Marriage is intended to rub off the rough edges.
When he does something you don't like and you handle it
as Christ would, you grow in character. And you will go around
that mountain and face that test until you pass
it. But when you do, you grow in character.
Marriage is intended for bliss on earth. And
you will experience it when you start giving. But that's
not its purpose. The scripture says that when a husband
loves his wife in a Christlike manner he will
make her holy!
Marriage wasn't created to make you
happy. It was created to make you holy.
