Now the Lord said to Abram, "Go from your country
and your kindred and your father's house to the land
that I will show you.
I will make of you a great nation, and I will bless you,
and make your name great, so that you will be a blessing.
I will bless those who bless you,
and the one who curses you I will curse; and in you all the families of the
earth shall be blessed."
Genesis 12:1-3 [NRSV]
The word bless, highlighted four times above,
is the Hebrew word, “barak”. It occurs 330 times in the Bible.
Barak first occurs in the Bible in Genesis
1:22 -
God blessed [barak] them,
saying, "Be fruitful
and multiply and fill the waters in the seas, and let birds
multiply on the earth." [NRSV]
Did you catch that? Before God ever commissioned
the man and the woman He preceded it with the action of blessing them.
He wanted them to succeed. Not just try to succeed. If they
could only start with a blessing then they would surely
succeed.
God also wants you to succeed. And He didn’t leave you alone. He started you off with The
Blessing to assure you of your success.
You are not just on earth to make
a living. You have been destined by the Almighty Creator for
purpose. And God, as in the case of Adam and Eve, preceded
your life with a blessing, a pronouncement of success,
before you ever arrived. How can you fail when you have been
destined to succeed?
My brother or sister. Live your life today as
if you could not fail. For the believer who's walking in The
Blessing failure is not an option. It is not in your DNA
code. You may have obstacles to overcome. But that's not the
same thing as failure.
Failure is based in sin, and the passage of that
sin from generation to generation. But you've been redeemed.
Failure may be the world's modus operandi. But not for the
believer.
So, live your life today as if
you were destined to succeed. Why not! God has already purposed
it for you.
Now live it out!
